Last week, we supported the Roads Policing Unit in Bridgwater as part of an operation targeting drivers using mobile phones, previously known as Operation Top Deck.
Officers used one of our double deck buses to gain an elevated view of passing traffic, allowing them to identify unsafe driving behaviours that are often difficult to detect from standard patrol vehicles. While glare in town centres presented some challenges due to weather conditions, visibility improved significantly on the motorway, where the approach proved particularly effective.
During the operation, several drivers were identified and reported for offences, reinforcing the importance of continued efforts to tackle distracted driving and improve safety on our roads.
This initiative highlights how we can support the police in addressing dangerous driving behaviours and improving safety for everyone.
Operation Top Deck is one example of how we are working together to help make our local community safer and keep our roads safe for all.
